Muscle Relaxant Injections

Introduction

Over time our skin reacts to ageing and climatic elements, particularly the sun. Years of muscle actions like frowning and squinting cause us to develop frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. These lines can give us an unwanted tired or angry appearance. Now there are simple non-surgical techniques to relax our muscles and smooth out facial lines and wrinkles.

What is Muscle Relaxant Injection Therapy and how does it work?

An extremely effective muscle relaxant derived from C. Botulinum is used to reduce facial lines and dynamic wrinkles. This is a simple, fast and highly effective non-surgical procedure which was US FDA approved in 1989 for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines.

The results of treatments are noticeable in a few days, and last for several months.

Scientifically, the release of Acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter which causes muscles to contract, is blocked at the Neuro-Muscular Junction. In other words, the tiny facial muscles that cause expression lines are relaxed to create a smoother, rejuvenated appearance only on the specific areas are treated, leaving surrounding muscles to function as usual - you still produce normal facial expression… without the wrinkles! Your facial expressions are not frozen only softened.

What does the procedure involve?

Muscle Relaxant Injection is placed into the superficial facial muscles via tiny injections using a very fine needle. The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. People describe it as an ant bite sting that last for a few seconds.

When can I go back to work?

Immediately. As there is NO DOWNTIME people often have the procedure before or after work, or during their lunch break.

How long does it take to work?

Muscle Relaxant Injection takes 2-3 days to begin taking effect and up to 10 days to see the full effect.

How long does Muscle Relaxant Injection Therapy last?

It lasts for approximately 4 months, depending on the individual. The result will wear off progressively as expression lines gradually return to their original appearance. The more often you have the treatment the less frequently it is required as the effects tend to last longer with each application.

Is Muscle Relaxant Injection Therapy safe?

Yes. The safety profile is considered to be excellent. There have been no long term permanent side-effects described. It has been widely tested and used for patients with various medical conditions for over 15 years in over 70 countries. Muscle Relaxant Injection is even used for lower limb spasticity in children over 2 years of age with cerebral palsy, and in the elderly for post-stroke spasticity. It is the most common cosmetic procedure performed in the US.

What are the side effects?

The most common side effects are temporary and reversible and can include (but are not restricted to) tenderness, occasional bruising at the site of injection. More rare side effects include blepharoptosis which is reversible. There have been no reported permanent side effects.

Do I need a skin test?

No. As Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy is non-animal based, you do NOT need a skin test prior to its application.

Is Muscle Relaxant Injection Therapy suitable for men?

Absolutely! It is equally effective on men and women. Because it is effective for horizontal stress lines, it is popular with many professional and businessmen leaving them looking more relaxed and approachable.
