Excessive Sweating

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is an embarrassing condition that can effect people socially and professionally. This condition affects 1-2% of the population. Hyperhidrosis can effect under the arms (axillae) , the hands (palms) and the feet (plantar). It can now be treated with Injection therapy.

What does Injection treatment for Hyperhidrosis involve?

For Underarm Hyperhidrosis (Axilla), you should allow half an hour for an appointment. An ice pack is usually used to numb the relevant area. A series of tiny superficial injections is then placed into the Underarm which take about 5-10 minutes per side.   After the treatment for Underarm Hyperhidrosis, one can go straight back to normal activities such as driving or working. There is no down time. The  treatment starts to work within 7-10 days.

For Hand (palm) Hyperhidrosis you should allow an hour for an appointment. An ice pack is usually used first to numb the palm. If the ice is not sufficient to numb the palm, mild sedation may need to be used.

A series of tiny superficial injections is then placed into the hand which take about 10-15 minutes per side. If only ice is used, one can go straight back to normal activities such as driving or working. There is no down time.

If mild sedation is used, one should not drive for 24 hours after the treatment.  The  treatment starts to work within 7-10 days.

How long does Injection treatment for Hyperhidrosis last?

The effects of the treatment last up to 7 months on average but according to a recent study, about 28% of people had a long-lasting benefit up to 16 months. Therefore depending on the individual, one may require treatments 1-2 times per year.

What does treatment of Hyperhidrosis with Injection Therapy cost?

The cost of Injection Therapy treatment for Underarm (axillae) Hyperhidrosis is $1150 in total.

The cost of Injection Therapy treatment for Hand (palm) Hyperhidrosisis $750 per hand.

At this stage, there is no Medicare rebate for this procedure however net medical expenses over $1500 per financial year may be tax-rebatable.
